THANKS FOR A GREAT SEASON!!

The Chargers ended their season last night with a 6-4 loss to the Buffalo Jr. Sabres at PC Arena. After battling back from a 3-1 deficit in games they came very close to forcing a game 7 in Buffalo.

The team enjoyed the support of a good crowd last night which certainly inspired them to play at 100%.

The season was a bright one for the team with a very strong finish after a slow start.

The team made the playoffs for the first time in over 6 years. Many players had career seasons and 2 players were named player of the month by the OJHL. This has never happened before in team history.

Pink in the Rink was a success and attendance was up over the last half of the season.

Looking forward the team is graduating 5 players to higher levels of hockey so there will be opening next year.

So if you want to be a part of this growing organization be sure to complete the rookie camp tryout form located on this web site.

On behalf of the Charger players, coaches, managers and trainers we would like to thank the fans, volunteers, arena staff and sponsors for their support.

Thanks again for a great season!!

WASHKURAK NAMED GOALIE OF THE MONTH

Part of the reason for the success of the team this season has been consistant high level goaltending.

Successful teams build from the net out and the Chargers are no exception.

The goaltending due of Washkurak and Lepore have demonstrated that they can play in this league and excel. They come to play every night give 100% when they get the call to play.

Austin Washurak has been particularly sharp since the christmas break and deserves much of the credit for the teams winning record in 2014.

Austin's play has not gone unnoticed at the league level. He was named goalie of the month for February from the OJHL.

A short on ice pre game presentation was performed in his honor this past Wednesday night at the Chargers home game vs. Buffalo.

This is the second time in as many months that a Chargers player has been recognized as player of the month. Captain Trevor Warnaar was name fowward of the month for January by the OJHL.

Warnaar Named SW Player of the Month

Date: Feb 06, 2014

The OJHL announced today that Mississauga Chargers captain Trevor Warnaar has been named the Gongshow Gear South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month for January after registering 11 goals and 22 points in 10 games played during the month.
The fourth year Charger continued his stellar play after returning in late November from a horrific injury that was sustained at the 2013 OJHL Governors' Showcase held in Oakville.  Warnaar led all OJHL scorers during the month of January with 11 goals and 11 assists to help the club's drive to the post-season with a 7-3 record on the month, that included a five gamewin streak.  He recorded multiple points five times during the month, including two, five point efforts in wins over Milton and Hamilton that saw him notch four and three goals respectively.  Warnaar fired home three game-winning goals in January and also had two important assists during a 2-1 victory over the South Division champion Toronto Lakeshore Patriots.

"To be recognized as South-West Player-of-the-Month is a great honour," said the Chargers' captain.  "This year has been the most challenging, and yet memorable, hockey season of my career.  If it had not been for the support and encouragement of my teammates, coaches and medical staff, I would likely not have made it back on the ice after my injury at the Showcase Tournament.  I consider this Player-of-the-Month recognition as a team award and I want to share this award with them.  What everyone on this team did for me I will never forget and it will be with me for the rest of my life."

"As an overage player in the league," continued Warnaar, "it would mean a great deal to me to make the playoffs and have a strong run in the post-season.  We've been successful  in the New Year so far and the team has been playing well together.  If we continue to play the way we have been I think we will surprise some teams and there is no other group of people that I would rather share that success with than the players, coaches and staff in that room right now."

"The entire organization is very proud of Trevor," said Chargers Head Coach Joe Washkurak.  "As the entire OJHL knows, Trevor had a very serious injury at Governors' Showcase Weekend and has worked very hard to come back.  Trevor's linemates Lucas Venuto and Mitch Mehling have played very well along with Trevor and have been instrumental in helping Trevor win this award.  Trevor is a very humble person, but I feel has really been the heart and soul of our team since he came back and a huge reason where our team is today. Trevor is a true leader and I would like to thank our therapist Dr. Karen Chrobak for helping Trevor back to where he is today...she worked very hard with him."

Chargers Face Tough Test Ahead

The Chargers have six tough games ahead including 5 road games in 12 days. Probably the toughest test of their season.

With a stellar record after the new year the team will take on the St. Mikes Buzzers tomorrow at 2 pm at PC Arena. That will the 3rd game of a 3 game home stand. The team split the first 2 games.

The road games begin Monday night January 27th and go straight through to Friday Feb. 7th with games against Hamilton, Kingston, Whitby, Toronto Lakeshore and Trenton.

A successful record through these next 6 game could earn them a playoff position.
